BMW says after the CE 04, all of its urban mobility models will be pure-electric
BMW has unveiled the production-spec CE 04 electric scooter that sports futuristic design, a punchy motor and latest technology.
It is rare to see a concept vehicle make it to production without major changes to its design and equipment list. But, the CE 04 looks exactly like the model that was previewed last year.
There is no other scooter, be it with an internal combustion or an electric heart, that looks as innovative as this EV. Although the highlight is the ‘floating’ seat, there are other nice elements like the muscular bodywork with air guides, solid wheels, and side blades.
In Avantgarde Style (ex works option), the EV comes in Magellan Grey metallic (as standard it is painted in white) with a black and orange seat and an orange wind deflector, along with revised graphics.
The lighting units of the electric scooter are all LEDs and its instrumentation is a 10.25-inch TFT colour screen which comes with integrated navigation and connectivity.
Equipped with a 8.9 kWh battery, the BMW CE 04 is powered by a 31 kW (42 HP) electric motor. A 23 kW (31 HP) reduced output version will also be on offer.
Claimed range is 130 km (100 km in reduced output version) and the scooter can do the 0-50 km/hr sprint in 2.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 120 km/hr.
What’s more, there are riding modes – Eco, Rain, Road and Dynamic (option) – on offer with the scooter that also features Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and, an an option, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC).
BMW says it takes 4 hours and 20 minutes to completely charge the Lithium-ion battery from flat using the standard 2.3 kW charging cable. When a 6.9 kW quick charger (available as an optional extra) is used, the charging time is reduced to 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The main frame of the EV is a tubular steel construction and the scooter has a fancy single-sided swing arm. Its suspension componentry consists of 35 mm telescopic fork upfront and a monoshock at the rear.
Riding on 15-inch rims wrapped with 120/70-section front tyre and 160/60-section rear rubber, the CE 04’s stopping power comes from twin front discs and a single rear disc with ABS assist (ABS Pro available as an optional extra).
