Hyundai has begun working on the Creta facelift to be introduced in 2022 and development mules of the same have been spied during on-road testing in Korea recently.
Launched only last March, the second-generation Creta has become a runaway success. It and its twin, the Kia Seltos, have dominated the (circa 4.3-metre) compact SUV market for some time now.
However, looks like Hyundai has decided it best to follow MG’s footsteps and introduce a facelift for the Creta within a couple of years since its market launch.
The 2022 Hyundai Creta facelift spied recently sports the brand’s latest design theme that was introduced with the fourth-generation Tucson(yet to arrive to India) and then carried forward to the Santa Cruz.
As a result, the compact SUV’s current grille will likely be replaced by the ‘parametric grille’. However, it is not clear if the facelifted Creta would get the half-mirror type LED DRLs that appear to be part of the grille when the car is switched off.
What’s more, it also seems to have horizontal DRLs above the grille, while a pair of vertically stacked main headlights flank the grille and, below, the air dam seems to have been enlarged, if only by a bit.
The changes made to the rear profile of the 2022 Hyundai Creta facelift is not known, but, like the front, there could be some major revisions.
Too many changes are not expected on the inside of the facelifted Creta, but this is Hyundai we are talking about and thus, introduction of more features will be more than a possibility.
While the current crop of powertrains are expected to be retained for the Creta facelift, sources state that in the future, the compact SUV could get mild hybrid tech. Also, autonomous features might also be introduced.
Expect Hyundai to launch the Creta facelift in India sometime next year, possibly not long after the introduction of its AX1 micro SUV.
