2022 Yamaha R7 Storms Into Middleweight Supersport Class
The R7 moniker has been revived and Yamaha offers the bike with a 689cc 2-cylinder engine that is good for 73.4 PS max power.
Yamaha has brought back the R7 for the 2022 model year as a stylish middleweight supersport motorbike.
The fully faired motorcycle shares many parts with the MT-07, including the engine and braking hardware, but, unlike the naked, it should be more suitable for track riding.
It is a sharp-looking motorcycle sporting a central LED headlight flanked by DRLs, a flyscreen, clip-on handlebars, sculpted tank, split seats (seat height is 835 mm) and a sharp tail.
Yamaha has ensured that the bike is narrow (its width is 705 mm) and the frontal area of the 2022 R7, says Yamaha, is the smallest of its R-series models, offering better aerodynamic efficiency.
Powered by a 689cc liquid-cooled 2-cylinder engine, the 2022 Yamaha R7 has a maximum power output of 73.4 PS at 8750 RPM. Its peak torque of 67 Nm comes in at 6500 RPM. The motor is paired with a 6-speed manual with assist and slipper clutch.
Wet weight of the bike is 188 kg (it has a 13-litre fuel reservoir) and it makes use of fully adjustable KYB 41 mm inverted forks upfront and a monoshock (also adjustable) at the rear (both 130 mm travel).
Twin 298 mm front discs and a single 245 mm rear disc provide the stopping power, while the 17-inch lightweight 10-spoke cast alloy rims are wrapped with 120/70-section tyre at the front and 180/55-section rear rubber.
The 2022 Yamaha R7 is available in 2 colour options – Icon Blue and Yamaha Black and also has an LCD instrument cluster.
Deliveries to European Yamaha dealers will commence from October this year and the bike will compete with the Aprilia RS 660, Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Honda CBR650R.
