Mahindra has introduced a vehicle scrapping initiative under the brand CERO by way of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mahindra MSTC Recycling Pvt Ltd (MMRPL).
MMRPL acquires and dismantles end-of-life vehicles under the CERO brand, while Mahindra MSTC Recycling is a joint venture between Mahindra Intertrade and MSTC Limited, a Government of India enterprise.
The Centre had, in March 2021, announced a voluntary vehicle scrapping policy which focuses on relieving Indian roads of old and polluting 4-wheelers. While the scrapping policy will take effect in some time, Mahindra plans to be ready to cater to customers who intend to scrap their vehicles.
Under the CERO vehicle scrapping service, Mahindra dealers will offer vehicle pickup, evaluation and provide a quote for exchange or scrapping value of a vehicle. The vehicles will then be dismantled at CERO scrapyards post which a Certificate of Deposit/Destruction (COD) will be issued.
In addition, Mahindra claims it will offer evaluation of a vehicle at the customer’s doorstep keeping in mind the ongoing pandemic.
Renault India has also partnered with CERO Recycling and has launched the ‘RELIVE’ programme to enable its customers to scrap end-of-life vehicles and avail of benefits on the purchase of new vehicles from its portfolio.
At present, the programme has been introduced in locations such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai and Pune. Renault claims customers who approach its dealerships with the intention of scrapping their vehicles will be offered a fair scrap valuation quote.
In addition, scrap benefit over the existing monthly offers on the brands products (Duster, Kwid and Triber) will be provided to customers. The entire process from vehicle evaluation to de-registration of vehicles set to be scrapped will be handled by Renault and CERO Recycling.
Even 2-wheelers are covered under this CERO vehicle scrapping scheme from Renault, wherein people can avail of 7.99 percent rate of interest from Renault Finance on purchase of new Renault cars.
The CERO vehicle scrapping service comprises automotive and steel recycling facility at Greater Noida, Chennai and Pune and collection centres in cities such as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Mumbai. It plans to have presence in 25 cities in the next 8 to 10 months.
