Ford India Not To Use Mahindra Engines In Future Products
Looks like the carmakers could not find common ground with regard to engines as well.
Ford India is set to use its own engines for its upcoming cars and not borrow any from Mahindra as their joint venture ended ahead of time.
Vendors of the American firm have been asked to hold work on 2 of its upcoming cars – the BX744 sub-4 metre SUV and BX772 compact SUV (Hyundai Creta rival) till August this year.
Both upcoming Ford cars will be managed internally, Ford noted in a recent communication. But, the firm is yet to finalise the powertrains which would be used for these projects.
Thus, Ford has stated that the launch of the 2 SUVs earlier planned for 2022-23 will be delayed by another 6 months.
Ford also added that it is re-evaluating alternatives for CSUV. it is expected that Ford would go for the Territory from its stable as reported earlier (read article here).
Until it introduces new projects, Ford will refresh its existing lineup regularly, while also bringing in performance products, including the Mustang Mach E electric SUV, under the 2500 units rule.
Ford will make use of $800 million (Rs. 5791 crores) it originally planned to pump into the joint venture with Mahindra for its independent operations in India and also to cater to emerging markets.
What’s more, the carmaker will rely on exports to North America from India and once its Brazil plant is closed, Ford India would have to cater to the needs of several emerging markets as well.
