Leading the least-selling 2-wheelers bandwagon in January 2021 in India was the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter, for only 30 units of it got retailed in the first month of the year.
Following it very closely is the Royal Enfield Himalayan, with only 34 units to its name. It is possible that buyers were waiting for the revised version to be launched, which happened last month, the reason why it fetched so small a sales figure.
In third place comes the Suzuki Intruder that was ridden home by 81 people in January. Suzuki should rethink its strategy with this particular model, which has become a regular in our list of shame.
Yamaha’s FZ25 seems to be steadily failing to attract customers as well, as only 159 units of the quarter-litre motorcycle got sold in the first month of the year. Suzuki’s Gixxer 250 did not fare better either, for only 165 units of the bike got sold in January.
Given the current asking price of petrol in India, it is quite evident that 250cc commuter bikes, despite wearing sporty attire, are not to the liking of many.
Sixth place in the list of least-selling 2-wheelers January 2021, goes to TVS iQube electric scooter, which was taken home by 211 buyers. Since it has been recently launched in Delhi as well, expect sales to further rise.
Another TVS, in the form of the Apache RR 310, also features in the list. The flagship motorcycle from the bike manufacturer found only 412 takers in the month of January.
Eighth position in the list goes to 2 motorcycles, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250. Combined sales of the bikes stood at just 508 units.
The bike on which the Husqvarna’s are based on, the KTM Duke 250, found 560 buyers during the same time. In tenth and final spot sits the Aprilia SR 125, for it was ridden home by 585 people.
Only 2-wheelers from the affordable-end of the market, including entry-level premium ones, have been taken into consideration for this list. Products deemed to be ultra premium have been left out.
