Land Rover Plonks 525 PS Supercharged V8 In Its Defender
Surely someone at Land Rover thought that the SUV needed lots more powah than it had already.
Land Rover has introduced the Defender V8 with a monstrous power figure and bespoke chassis settings to make it an engaging vehicle be it off-road or on-road.
The V8 Defender features bespoke exterior badging, quad exhausts, Shadow Atlas exterior detailing, 22-inch Satin Dark Grey alloy wheels behind which sit Xenon Blue brake calipers and 20-inch brake discs.
Customers have a choice of 3 colours, namely Carpathian Grey, Yulong White (both get a Narvik Black roof) and Santorini Black, to choose from.
New exterior packs – Bright Pack, Extended Bright Pack and Extended Black Pack – featuring bespoke exterior trim have also been introduced now.
Inside, the Defender V8 features seats trimmed in Ebony Windsor leather with Miko Suede cloth and Robustec accents, each finished with a Ebony tag. The exposed Cross Car Beam has a Satin Black finish.
A 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen, 4-spoke steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara, gear lever covered in leather, paddle shifters in satin chrome and illuminated sill plates are all present along with wireless device charging and an integrated signal booster.
Power comes from a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine, which produces a maximum of 525 PS and a peak 625 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
This makes the car a rather quick one. For example, the V8 90 smashes the 0-100 km/hr run in 5.2 seconds and can hit a top speed of 240km/hr.
Known for its off-road capability, the SUV, when equipped with the V8 engine gets a new Dynamic program within the Terrain Response system that works with the torque vectoring by braking and traction control systems.
Moreover, Land Rover has also beefed up the anti-roll bars and equipped the electronic active rear differential with a yaw controller to handle the massive power the car has now.
Carpathian Edition –
This flagship of the new Defender V8 range is finished in Carpathian Grey with a Narvik Black contrast roof, bonnet and tailgate, while the whole car has a satin protective film and yes, there are model-specific badges too. Inside, the Land Rover Defender V8 Carpathian Edition features the same upgrades as the V8.
XS Edition –
Replacing the First Edition variant, the new XS Edition (not exclusive to the V8) is positioned above the SE models. Sporting body-coloured lower cladding and lower wheel arches, and 20-inch Satin Grey alloy wheels, this variant comes with a choice of 4 exterior colour options.
On the inside, the 12-way, heated and electric memory seats are finished in Grained Leather, while the Cross Car Beam has a Light Grey finish.
Apart from the standard electronic air suspension, adaptive dynamics and configurable Terrain Response, the XS Edition benefits from Matrix LED headlights, ClearSight Rear View mirror and 10-speaker Meridian sound system.
Prices for the new Land Rover Defender V8 start at £98,505 (Rs. 1 crore) for the 90 and £101,150 (Rs. 1.03 crores) OTR for the 110 in the UK.
