Aprilia India has commenced bookings for the RS 660 and Tuono 660 which will arrive here by the second quarter of the year.
To be brought in as completely built-up units (CBU), the middleweight bikes, says MD and CEO of Aprilia India, Diego Graffi, will be “quite expensive, more expensive than normal”.
He also revealed that at the moment, the brand is taking orders from dealers across the nation to understand the interest these products receive and from the second quarter of 2021, the bikes will be imported from Europe.
Revealed last year, the Aprilia RS 660 comes powered by a 660cc twin-cylinder engine good for 100 HP and 67 Nm if torque. It comes with modern styling that, interestingly, inspired the 2021 RSV4 and Tuono V4 motorcycles that sit above the middleweight bike.
More importantly, the RS 660 has a top-notch electronics package, unlike many middleweights. Termed Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC), the system relies on a 6-axis IMU.
There is traction control, 3-level cornering ABS, adjustable wheelie control and engine braking control. Addition, Aprilia offers the bike with 5 riding modes, a bi-directional quickshifter, smartphone connectivity, cruise control, self-cancelling indicators, cornering lights and a TFT instrument display.
The Tuono 660 is the newest addition to the 660 family from the bike firm. It is based on the RS 660, but is more road-focused and has a reduced fairing.
Although it has the same engine as its fully-faired twin, the Tuono 660 “only” has 95 HP for the rider to exploit, but at 183 kg, it is a light machine. It too sports the comprehensive electronics package as the RS 660.
When these bikes come to India later this year, expect them to cost more than Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom), with the Tuono 660 being the more affordable model.
