Due to COVID-19-related disruptions, the launch of the first Bajaj-Triumph bike may get pushed to 2023, MD of Bajaj Auto, Rajiv Bajaj has hinted.

Bajaj Auto entered a partnership with premium bike manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles to produce middleweight motorcycles for the Indian and overseas markets.

The first motorcycle to be made and subsequently launched under the partnership will be a Triumph model which will be priced under Rs. 2 lakhs.

According to Rajiv Bajaj, development of several Triumph products for the middleweight segment has been delayed owing to COVID-19.

Most of the development for the products created under the partnership will be done in India and they will be manufactured by Bajaj with up to 99 percent localisation, as is the case with the Bajaj-KTM products.

Due to delays in development, Rajiv says he is unsure if they will be ready for the first Bajaj-Triumph bike launch in 2022, adding that it will more likely be in 2023.

Further, Rajiv Bajaj has noted that his firm will not only be responsible for the Indian market when it comes to marketing and sales of Triumph motorcycles it manufactures.

Instead, Bajaj will also oversee the retail of Triumph bikes in some export markets including neighbouring nations in the subcontinent, Asia and Africa, among others.
