Aprilia RS & Tuono 660 To Launch In India By Mid-2021

Mr Diego Graffi, CEO and MD, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd has revealed that they plan on launching the Aprilia RS & Tuono 660 in India by mid-2021.

Mr Graffi had earlier said that they are planning to expand Aprilia’s network in India in the coming years, and the launch of the new middle-weights is definitely a step in the right direction.

The RS 660 is Aprilia’s first middle-weight offering, and it slots right between the sports tourer and the supersport class. The aesthetics are striking, futuristic, and they will appeal to the masses.

The electronics package and the instrument cluster is based on the RSV4, giving it high levels of adjustability and sophistication that even much more powerful bikes lack.

The Tuono 660, meanwhile, is the naked iteration of the RS 660 and shares all the aforementioned specs with its faired counterpart. Both bikes also share a 660cc twin-cylinder motor which makes 100 BHP and 67 Nm of torque along with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch too.

All these are segment-topping numbers, especially when compared to bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Honda CBR650R, which are currently on sale in India. If all this doesn’t convince you to start saving up for the 660, you can check out the full specs of the bike here.

Speaking of saving up, Mr Graffi has said the bikes will arrive as CBU units. This means that the Aprilia 660 twins will be a costly affair and we expect them to cost around Rs. 12-13 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Now, this is a pretty hefty price tag for any middle-weight offering in India. At this price, the 660s will lock horns with more powerful offerings like the Triumph 765 RS and even the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R instead of its key rivals like the Honda CBR650R.

However, the arrival of the Aprilia RS 660 and the Tuono 660 is good news for us, after all, if these bikes sell well, Aprilia might consider bringing their future offerings via the CKD route, making them more affordable.
