Ducati has revealed the 2021 Monster lineup that will replace the 797, 821 and 821 Stealth models in the brand’s lineup.
This all-new model does away with the traditional trellis frame and in its place sits an aluminium front frame (called Front Frame minimalist design) pioneered by the brand in the Panigale.
Courtesy of the frame only weighing 3 kg, the double-sided swingarm being 1.6 kg lighter, the subframe (made using Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer) also shaving 1.9 kg and the cast-aluminium wheels weighing 1.7 kg less (in comparison to the Monster 821), the whole bike weighs just 188 kg (wet).
Powering the 2021 Ducati Monster is a Euro 5-compliant 937cc Testastretta 11 degree L-twin that delivers 111 HP at 9250 RPM and 93 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. Ducati says the engine is tuned to provide a fatter torque band across the rev range, especially the low-to-mid-range, for better rideability.
The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and, as standard, features a bi-directional quickshifter. Other features it comes with include a 4.3-inch TFT display screen and a USB socket.
Design-wise the bike is as sharp as motorcycles come. It features full-LED lighting with dynamic turn indicators, a muscular fuel tank, sharp creases and dual exhaust outlets. The Monster Plus gets a flyscreen and passenger seat cover in addition.
When it comes to the ergonomics, Ducati says the handlebar has been brought in a bit closer, the riding posture is more upright, while the footpegs have also been repositioned to reduce leg bend.
To increase agility at lower speeds, the steering angle is decreased to 24 degrees while the seat height is 818 mm. But, it can be reduced using an accessory seat (brings it down to 800 mm) or with a spring kit (also an accessory and lowers the seat height to 775 mm).
Being a modern Ducati, the new Monster comes with plentiful electronics such as Cornering ABS, Traction Control, Wheelie Control, Launch Control, and 3 riding modes, namely – Sport, Urban and Touring.
Colours offered on the 2021 Monster and Monster Plus are Ducati Red, Dark Stealth and Aviator Grey. Ducati is also offering accessory adhesive graphics patterns.
Expected to hit Ducati dealerships abroad on April 2021, the 2021 Monster’s pricing begins at $11,895 (Rs. 8.77 lakhs), while the Monster Plus costs from $12,195 (Rs. 8.99 lakhs).
