The Transcontinental badge will be suitable for an offering of this sort

Not long ago BMW unveiled their retro cruiser offering the R 18, but some sources suggested that there might be more in mind of the German giant. Now, news has emerged that BMW has trademarked the name Transcontinental and probably for a cruiser offering.

The trademark rights for Transcontinental were applied in Europe, and BMW has specifically mentioned that they will use the word for motorcycles and motorcycle parts. After all, Transcontinental is an accurate name for an excellent cruiser motorcycle.

The new cruiser will be similar to the R 18, but will differ in many aspects too. It is likely to have a new steering assembly, meaning that it might get an updated chassis.

But the biggest difference might be the presence of a bar-mounted fairing and new bodywork. This will make the motorcycle easy to munch miles on, thanks to the wind protection, and will result in a better road presence too.

Not only this, the seat will be new and hard-panniers might be present too, for extra practicality. The fairing might also result in new TFT instrumentation and better electronics package too.

One exciting addition to this package could be BMW’s new cruise control with radar technology too, which made its debut on the 2021 R 1250 RT. This will enable adaptive cruise control that lets the bike automatically keep pace with traffic, making cruising a breeze.

The radar positioning seems easy too, as the front fairing has plenty of space to accommodate a radar. However, we will find out what BMW has planned once we see the bike in flesh.

There isn’t a lot of information regarding the numbers but we expect the power output to be like the R 18. BMW might even save the hassle and use the same Boxer engine too but only time will tell.

Lastly, the launch isn’t really far and one can expect BMW to unveil the R 18-based cruiser or the Transcontinental towards the end of 2021. As BMW launched the R 18 here, the launch of the new cruiser is highly likely as well.
