Feast your eyes on the Ferrari 488 GT Modificata, the Italian supercar maker’s latest limited edition track-only toy.
It falls between the 488 GTE and the 488 GT3 race cars, employs technology developed for them and can only be used during Ferrari Club Competizioni GT events and track days.
One look at it will let people know that the car is no slouch. It has got proper aero kit, lightweight carbon fibre body panels (apart from the roof and uprights which are made using aluminium) and means pure business.
To be precise, the Ferrari 488 GT Modificata is capable of generating 1000 kg downforce at 230 km/hr and the carmaker claims that overall drag has not increased.
Moreover, it is less sensitive to changes made to the rear wing angle, which is an added bonus. Do not expect creature comforts inside for it apes race car interior.
Powering the Ferrari 488 GT Modificata is a significantly upgraded 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, now free of the FIA Balance of Performance regulations, that makes 700 HP. The gearbox too has been revised with different ratios and the clutch is now a carbon fiber unit.
Ferrari engineers worked with Brembo to develop the braking system for the car which has resulted in them fitting low residual torque calipers to it, like the ones fitted to world championship racers. The ABS system has been borrowed from the 488 GT3 Evo 2020.
As standard, the track car comes with a V-Box that works in conjunction with Bosch’s telemetry data acquisition system, a rear-video camera, second seat and TPMS system that measures both temperature and pressure.
It is nice to see the brand harking back to its motorsport roots time and again with models such as this. However, it will be sold only to drivers who recently took part in Ferrari’s Competizioni GT or Club Competizioni GT series.
Thus, we can expect to see a few 488 GT Modificata’s roaring around places like the Virginia International Raceway, the Nurburgring, among others, that come under next year’s Club Competizioni GT calendar.
