Global NCAP has revealed the crash test results of the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and the hatchback achieved two stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection.
In total, it received 7.05 points for adult protection and 15 points for child protection and the car’s structure was rated as unstable. Also rated unstable was the footwell area of the 1139 kg (when tested) car.
The Grand i10 NIOS offers double frontal airbags and pretensioners for both front passengers as standard.
In the tests, Global NCAP found the head and neck protection for adult occupants to be good. But, chest protection was weak for the driver and adequate for the passenger.
When it comes to child occupant protection, the 3-year-old dummy showed poor protection for the head and a limited chest protection, while the 18-month-old showed better protection.
The car does not offer standard 3-point belts in all seating positions and does not offer standard ISOFIX anchorages.
Child occupant protection showed poor results in the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS Global NCAP crash tests mainly explained by the decision of the car manufacturer not to recommend the Child Restraint Systems (CRS) for the test.
Refusing to recommend a CRS for the test, Global NCAP said, raises questions about the car manufacturer’s policy and relevance towards child occupant protection for the Indian market.
