People looking to buy the 2021 Hyundai i20 would know the reasons to buy the premium hatchback, for the model’s launch has been well covered so far.
Priced from a little under Rs. 6.8 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the car has good looks, plentiful features and will likely carry forward the success its predecessor enjoyed.
But, like any car, it too comes with flaws and we are here to point them out. But first, let us look at the good stuff.

Design & quality – Be it on the outside or inside, the new i20 looks very good. The design is fresh and the dashboard, when equipped with the digital cluster and the touchscreen, looks very neat. What’s more, the quality of the materials used is also good and the car should hold up well over the years.
Features – The hatchback is packed full of it. Top-spec variants get LED projector headlights, LED tail lights, electric sunroof, push button start/stop, wireless charger, TFT driver’s display, 10.25-inch touchscreen, Bose premium 7 speaker audio system, and much more.
Space & ride – With a wheelbase measuring 2850 mm and its overall width being 1775 mm, the car has enough space for four passengers inside and they would not complain about taking long journeys in the car either, for its has a rather comfortable ride and the boot is big enough to take in a decent amount of baggage.
Engine & gearbox options – This is something that must be on top of a person’s 2021 Hyundai i20 reasons to buy list, for there are two petrol engines – a 1.2-litre NA unit and a 1.0-litre turbo, and one 1.5-litre diesel engine on offer with the car. When it comes to the gearbox, based on the engine option, one can choose between a 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT, IVT or a DCT.
4 Reasons To Not Buy
No diesel AT – The top-spec (dual tone) i20 diesel variant costs Rs. 10,74,900/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) and for the price, Hyundai would have done well to offer an automatic gearbox option. This would also have given the car an edge against its rivals.
Missing features – Hyundai does not offer ventilated seats, auto dimming IRVM, art leather upholstery, among a few things, in its new i20. These features would have done well to justify the price tag of the top-spec models, which we will come to in a moment.
Vague steering – Now, there is nothing wrong with the steering. It is just that it could be a bit more feelsome. Considering the fact that the car can be had with a turbo petrol and DCT, more steering feel would do wonders to the driving experience.
Price – Top spec variants of the car, be it petrol or diesel, are very pricey. Yes, Hyundai does offer a lot of features to justify the price, but, some might look at the price list and be aghast at how much this premium hatchback will cost on the road.
