Maruti Suzuki leads in all three hatchback classes of the September 2020 sales list with the Alto, Swift and Baleno.
Top two models in the small cars section are Marutis and they are the Alto and S-Presso. While the Alto saw 18,246 units get sold, the S-Presso witnessed 9000 unit sales and a growth of 80 percent.
They are followed by the Kwid (4513 units) and the redi-GO that sold a poor 612 units. Overall growth was a very respectable 35 percent.
Swift leads Wagon R, among others in its class, having witnessed a very strong sales figure of 22,643 units, with 75 percent year-over-year (YoY) growth.
While the Wagon R came second with 17,581 unit sales (50 percent growth), Hyundai’s Grand i10 and Nios combo sold 10,385 units to come third, well ahead of the Maruti Celerio in fourth place with 7250 units getting sold in September.
Tata Tiago (6080 units), Maruti Ignis (3318) and the Hyundai Santro (3034) were the only other cars that fetched four figure sales, while the Ford Figo and Datsun GO could only muster 213 and 55 units, respectively.
Things in the premium hatchback segment fared reasonably well as we can see from the September 2020 hatchback sales list.
While overall sales grew by 51 percent YoY, significant contribution to that was made single-handedly by the Maruti Baleno which saw 19,433 units of it get sold, a 70 percent growth rate.
Hyundai Elite i20 with 9852 units came second while Altroz from Tata came third with 5952 units getting sold. Honda’s Jazz makes a return to the list selling 748 units overall.
