As the name suggests, it is a crossover by the design and provides the finest of both worlds i.e. a compact SUV and a large hatch. Maruti launched the S-Cross in the year 2015 with two diesel engine options, 1.6-litre and 1.3-litre. The 1.6-litre variant did not sell well but offered impressive performance. In 2017 Maruti gave it a facelift with some attractive cosmetic changes and the 1.6-litre diesel engine was discontinued. The 1.3-litre mill came with a mild hybrid system. Later, when the BS6 norms arrived, the 1.3 diesel engine was also discontinued, and now the S-Cross comes with a petrol engine for the first time.

Maruti S-Cross Exterior
The Maruti S-Cross gets a large front grille with chrome accents. The bonnet looks muscular and has strong character lines. It gets LED projector headlamps and DRLs in the top model while the lower trims are offered with halogens. The changes in the side profile of the car are very minimal, and you get a new set of 16-inch alloys, which look nice.
Maruti S-Cross Interior
The Maruti S-Cross gets an all-black interior. It comes equipped with Maruti’s SmartPlay Studio infotainment system which supports Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Voice Commands, Bluetooth, USB & AUX connectivity, steering-mounted controls, remote control through SmartPlay Studio App, etc. It also gets keyless-go with push-button start, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, reverse parking camera, auto-dimming IVRM, and cruise control. The steering comes leather-wrapped, which gives it a premium feel. The instrument cluster is also easy to read.

The Maruti S-Cross is loaded with an ample amount of rear space. There is enough legroom, headroom, and under-thigh support is also good. The boot has 375-litres of capacity, and loading luggage is not a tough job because of its low loading lip. The rear seats can fold in 60:40 ratio, which can open up more cargo space.
Maruti S-Cross Engine Performance
The Maruti S-Cross petrol gets the same 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that is shared with its siblings like the Ertiga, XL6, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza. The engine churns out 103 HP @ 6000 RPM and a torque output of 138 Nm @ 4400 RPM. This engine comes mated with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed old school torque convertor automatic. The S-Cross petrol gets a mild-hybrid system which offers three features – automatic start/stop when you bring the car to a halt and release the clutch in neutral, torque assist which offers a slight push of torque at low RPMs and regenerative braking which recharges the li-ion battery under braking.
At idle speeds, the engine is extremely refined and offers a great punch at low revs. Power delivery is flat in the midrange, and it redlines up to 6500 RPM. The old school automatic is not quick to respond and does not get a tiptronic function or manual mode. You just get low, 2nd and an overdrive lock-up button for when you need to overtake on highways.
Maruti S-Cross Mileage
The ARAI rated fuel efficiency of the Maruti S-Cross petrol is 18.55 km/l (MT) and 18.43 km/l (AT). However, in the real-world conditions, it will return around 11-13 km/l in city traffic conditions and 13-15 out on the highways. Fuel efficiency depends upon the style of driving and traffic conditions.

The Maruti S-Cross is a fun to drive car. The steering feels light and is good for city driving. However, out on the highways, it lacks some feels and feedback. The body roll is well contained and feels stable at high speeds. It gets all 4 disc brakes, and the braking power is quite impressive.
