BMW Motorrad R 18 India launch is not far away and with respect to that, the motorcycle has been recently spotted in the country.
It seems that the bike is here for customer preview events and will be first showcased in Gurgaon this month to a closed group of individuals, before heading to Chandigarh for a private preview.
The cruiser from BMW Motorrad’s Heritage range of motorcycles will be powered by a 1802cc 2-cylinder air and oil-cooled boxer engine that produces 91 HP of peak power at 4750 RPM along with 158 Nm of maximum torque at 3000 RPM.
Amazingly, BMW claims that 150 Nm of torque will always be available between 2000 RPM and 4000 RPM and the motor will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via a shaft.
It gets a double-cradle steel frame with screwed-on underbeams, telescopic forks upfront, steel swinging forks at the rear with a central shock strut, twin 300 mm disc brakes with 4-piston calipers at the front, single 300 mm disc with 4-piston caliper at the rear, with ABS.
Electronic aids such as traction control, cruise control and hill-hold assist will be present, while ride-by-wire is also there, enabling the bike to get three riding modes – Rain, Rock and Roll.
Unladen weight (with 90 percent fuel) of the motorcycle is 345 kg and the seat height is only 690 mm. BMW says the bike will have a minimum range of 290 km, while the top speed of the bike is in excess of 190 km/hr.
Available in a standard Black Storm Metallic colour, customers can also get the R 18 in first edition guise that gets double striping and chrome design.
