2020 Volkswagen Passat launch is expected to take place soon as the facelifted version has been recently spotted on test outside Pune.
The undisguised car put on full display the changes made to the sedan and they are subtle, in typical Volkswagen fashion.
Most visible changes at the front are resigned to the lower portion of the bumper that get more angular lines instead of the straight ones seen on the pre-facelift car.
The fog lamp housing has changed as well. Although the spy car is devoid of fog lights, the car will come with them, again with a different design.
The rear bumper has been changed too and the word Passat now runs below the VW emblem in the centre.
Inside, the cabin has been decluttered and gets two digital screens, while the air vents are streamlined, seamlessly integrating with the chrome lines that cut across the dash.
Not all is done via the touchscreens either, thankfully, Volkswagen has provided a few buttons that would fall into the driver’s hands quite easily.
The steering wheel is new too and this time it gets capacitive touch tech and integrates with Volkswagen’s new Travel Assist system.
As is the case with all Volkswagens, expect the Passat’s interiors to be made in a robust way to withstand abuse.
The 2020 Volkswagen Passat launch would see the sedan get rid of its 2.0-litre diesel engine that put out 175 PS and 350 Nm of torque and use a petrol motor in its place.
Again a 2.0-litre unit, the TSI motor will produce 190 HP and 320 Nm of torque and will come mated to a 7-speed DSG.
Features offered on the 2020 Volkswagen Passat include SIM-based connected tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and lock/unlock function using an app (only on Samsung phones).
The 2020 Volkswagen Passat launch will happen soon and the car will be priced around Rs. 34 lakhs (ex-showroom) when it goes on sale. Its main rival is its sister car, the Skoda Superb.
