Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 Recall — The fuel tank will be replaced with a revised unit that will offer a better seal

Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 and Svartpilen 701 recalled globally as the bikemaker has detected possible fuel leaks on both motorcycles.

Husqvarna claims the issue is being caused by an “unevenness in the area of the sealing surface between the tank and fuel pump as well as the tank and fuel level sensor”.

The fuel tank of every affected bike will be replaced with a new unit that has thicker walls to provide a better seal. Husqvarna has issued an immediate recall as it is a very serious issue.

All Vitpilen 701 units built from 2018-onwards are affected with the issue, while Svartpilen 701 bikes that are affected are those produced in 2019.

Owners are being contacted by the brand, asking them to get an appointment with its dealerships for inspection and tank replacement. It will be done for free.

Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 and Svartpilen 701 have a tubular steel trellis frame. Power comes from a 692cc, single-cylinder engine that puts out 75 BHP and 72 Nm of torque.

Suspension duties are done by WP-sourced inverted forks upfront and a monoshock at the rear, while the wheels are spokes. The Vitpilen gets road-oriented tyres and the Svartpilen gets dual purpose rubber.

Husqvarna officially entered the Indian market in February 2020 by launching the Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250. The 701 twins are yet to go on sale here.

Both 250 models were priced at Rs. 1.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) and are are currently sold at KTM showrooms. Husqvarna aims to sell them at 400 dealerships across the country.

The bikes come powered by a 248.8cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 30 HP and 24 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
