Ford Mustang Mach-E Petition Filed For Name Change

Change has always been constant in the automotive world. Nothing lasts in the industry that has so far ensured its survival based on constant adaptation over the years.

It would be an understatement to say that Ford Motor Company, that has been around for over a century, has made one or two radical attempts in its history and one such attempt is attaching its fabled “Mustang” moniker to an SUV, an electric one at that. The vehicle in question is the 2021 Mustang Mach-E.

However, it seems that the idea has not gone down well with enthusiasts and Mustang loyalists who have now gone on to create an online petition page that they aim to send to Ford, urging the automaker to remove the Mustang name and logo altogether from the EV.

Those who created the petition state that turning the Mustang into an SUV is neither innovative nor is it keeping true to its heritage. It seems to have struck a cord among the pony car lovers as close to 16,000 have already filled the petition.

This development comes even as Ford is getting ready to deliver the EV to consumers. It was only today that the automaker had announced that those who had already reserved the EV in the US can convert the same into an order.

Unveiled in November last year, the Mach-E will be priced starting from $44,000 (Rs. 33.24 lakhs) and will have four variants. The top one will have 346 HP and 580 Nm and will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 5.5 seconds.

For those who do not know, Ford unveiled the Mustang in 1964 and has gone on to sell over one crore units since then.
