Skoda Karoq to get locally assembled if there is demand.
Skoda recently introduced the much awaited Karoq with a rather premium pricing at Rs. 24.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is available in a single fully loaded CBU variant. Now, Skoda Karoq CKD is under consideration for long term.
Local assembly of the Karoq will be subjective to a number of other factors. Firstly, the demand of the car in the market. Skoda needs to sell a 1000 units batch currently.
If there is decent demand for the Karoq, the Czech carmaker will go ahead and commence local assembly of CKD kits. Secondly, there is another factor of new emission regulations coming in 2023.
After the rollout of the recent BS6 norms, the automakers need to prepare for RDE (Real Driving Emissions) norms coming into effect in 2023.
Keeping the new norms in mind, Skoda needs to make the decision accordingly. In order to meet the upcoming regulations they’ll need to assess their powertrain technology.
Right now, the Karoq is available in a single powertrain option. It is powered by a 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol motor. Produces 150 PS at 5000-6000 RPM and 250 Nm of torque at 1500-3500 RPM, mated to a 7-speed DSG auto gearbox.
If launched via CKD, the ex-showroom and on-road price might come down considerably. For now, Skoda is preparing to launch the updated Kodiaq BS6 later this year before they introduce the Vision IN compact SUV next year along with a new sedan for the C-segment.
