Royal Enfield has developed new 350cc platform for future bikes.
The coronavirus has let down the auto industry and the buyer sentiment. However, Royal Enfield with its aggressive future plans doesn’t seem to be worried about this slowdown.
The Indian bike maker is pushing the envelope to become the midsize motorcycle king. Not only in the domestic market but RE wants to make it big globally as well with new engines and platforms in the pipeline.
Royal Enfield CEO Vinod Dasari has confirmed the launch of Meteor 350 by June end. He has revealed that the bike gets a new platform and a brand new 350cc engine as well.
The displacement is exactly the same as the old 350cc UCE engine. However, it is a new 350cc single-cylinder motor that will likely get overhead cams with counterbalance. It will get rid of traditional pushrod architecture of UCE.
The upcoming 350cc platform will also get a new 6-speed gearbox and a new frame as well. The engine is expected to offer better refinement and performance compared to UCE.
With the new modular architecture, Royal Enfield is prepared to launch different models from the same platform. While they’re at it, they will continue to use old 350cc UCE for some models as well.
The 350cc UCE engine has been updated with BS6 emission norms recently. The bike maker will sell motorcycles with both the old and new engines side by side.
