Toyota Innova Crysta now available with a 2.4-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol.
Toyota has discontinued the more powerful 2.8-litre diesel engine in the Innova Crysta. The bigger oil burner has not been updated to meet the BS6 emission norms.
The Japanese carmaker might’ve thought about the increasing price point due to BS6 and relatively less volumes to justify updating the 2.8-litre diesel to BS6.
One more strategical move possible with this decision as they might want Innova to distance itself from the Kia Carnival in terms of price point.
The 2.4-litre diesel ZX AT Innova Crysta already touches Rs. 29 lakhs (all prices, on-road Mumbai) price while the range topping Touring Sport version is priced at Rs. 30.32 lakhs.
Now the entry level Kia Carnival, which has decent equipment, feels premium and is much bigger in size is priced at Rs. 30.31 lakhs, which is the same as the range topping Innova Crysta.
The 2.8-litre diesel would have made it quite difficult for Toyota to justify the price that could shoot up to Rs. 32 lakhs easily.
Currently, Toyota is only offering the Innova Crysta with 2.4-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engine options. Both the engines are available with manual and automatic transmission options.
