COVID-19 has made a pretty big dent on car sales in March 2020.
The March 2020 sales figures are out and as you can see, it is a big blood bath of negative figures. There are quite some changes in the positions due to the limited dispatch of cars during the COVID-19 crisis in the country.
The top seller for March 2020 is the Maruti Baleno with 11,406 units. It has hit the top spot for the first time since launch. Still, it saw a massive 34 percent YoY negative growth.
The Maruti Alto reserves the second spot with 10,829 units, 36 percent YoY fall. Meanwhile the Wagon R comes in second with 9151 unit sales, 43 percent of YoY fall!
The Maruti Swift holds the fourth spot with 8575 units with 40 percent YoY negative growth. The Kia Seltos holds the fifth spot yet again with 7466 units. It continues to be the top selling SUV in the country. Still, a massive drop from 14,024 units in February.
So the top 5 sellers include 4 Maruti cars. It is only the Hyundai Xcent/Aura that has seen positive numbers out of 25 cars scoring 2615 units with 46 percent growth.
The cars that suffered the most include Maruti Dzire doing 5476 units with 73 percent negative growth, Hyundai Elite i20 doing 3455 units with 72 percent negative figure, Hyundai Santro with 2169 units having 74 percent degrowth and Mahindra Bolero with 2080 units hit with 74 percent fall in YoY sales.
March 2020 has been quite a torturous period for the carmakers. These are still the figures of cars dispatched before lockdown, April 2020 is going to be the worst. Expect a completely different scenario for the current month sales.
