Tata HBX production version to go on sale in India later this year or early next year.
The Coronavirus outbreak has shattered the auto industry not only in our country but across the globe. There are huge stockpiles of BS4 vehicles and sales have had a huge dent. All the car/bike launches have been postponed.
One of the products affected in this crisis is the Tata HBX micro SUV. The car was showcased in a near-production concept form at the Auto Expo 2020. It was expected to go on sale in the country ahead of the festive season this year.
However, due to the prolonged lockdown in the country, the Indian automaker has delayed the launch of the Tata HBX which could be launched later this year or early next year.
The production version will retain 90 percent of the details from the concept car. The exterior and interior will more or less be the same in the final version with some tweaks to make it more practical.
The HBX is expected to get a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with direct injection. It will also get the option of a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol borrowed from the Altroz, Tiago and Tigor.
It won’t get a diesel engine option while the petrol engines will get 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. We can expect Tata to introduce an all-electric version of the HBX eventually.
Some of the key highlights will include semi-digital instrument cluster, floating touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, driving modes, etc.
The Tata HBX will compete agains the Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Ignis with an expected price range of Rs. 4.5-7.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
