Hyundai has launched the 2020 Verna facelift in India with new engine options.
Coming fresh off the launch of the new Creta, Hyundai has now launched the facelifted version of the Verna sedan in India, ahead of the BS6 deadline with a new range of petrol and diesel engines. Priced from Rs. 9.31 – 15.10 lakhs (ex-showroom), the car comes in four variants – S, S+, SX and SX(O).
The 2020 Hyundai Verna looks fresh with a completely redesigned fascia. There is a bigger honeycomb grille in black with chrome slats, while the fog lamp housing is now triangular and there are LED headlamps this time around. The tail lamps are LEDs as well. The Korean carmaker has thrown in a new set of wheels with a dual-tone design for good measure.
The interior is similar to the outgoing model but gets some tweaks like redesigned AC vents, faux wood inlays and a bigger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The vehicle also gets a digital instrument cluster. The equipment list includes ventilated front seats, sunroof, hands-free boot opening, and wire-less charging. On the safety front, you get standard dual front airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, and front seat-belt reminders while on the top variants you get six airbags, ESC, reverse camera and TPMS. The turbo petrol variant gets front parking sensors too.
The car also has the BlueLink voice-activated connected tech that Hyundai says is free of cost for the first three years. It allows pairing with the user’s smartphone and smartwatch and also provides safety features such as crash notification, SOS, RSA, tyre pressure monitoring system, tracking, engine immobilisation, remote location access and can even alert the police. The convenience enhancing features that are on offer on the car include engine start-stop, climate control, door lock and unlock, and vehicle status.
The Hyundai Verna comes with a 1.5-litre MPI petrol engine that develops 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing the same 115 PS but more torque as befits a diesel, at 250 Nm. These engines are also shared with the Creta. However, the sedan also gets the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine seen in the Venue that produces 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque.
While the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a CVT or a torque convertor automatic respectively, the turbo petrol engine is offered only with a 7-speed DCT. Needless to say, all three engines are BS6-compliant.
The Hyundai Verna rivals the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Toyota Yaris and Maruti Ciaz. Most of these sedans are petrol-only models now due to the BS6 norms and only the City is available with a diesel engine. The Honda City’s 5th generation is set to be launched in the coming months.
