Suzuki is considering launching the Katana in India provided it gets positive market response.
Suzuki was one of the few two-wheeler companies that took part in the 2020 Auto Expo. While the manufacturer showcased all their BS6 bikes, there was one motorcycle which generated a lot of enthusiasm and that’s the Suzuki Katana.
A lot of speculations have been floating around regarding the motorcycle’s launch in India. However, it has now been learnt that the Suzuki Katana won’t be launched here at least in 2020, and there’s a possibility that it could be introduced in our market in 2021.
The international spec Suzuki Katana isn’t Euro-5 (BS6) compliant yet and this update will still take some time. Post that, Suzuki will start gauging the motorcycle’s response in India by speaking to potential customers, undertaking surveys, etc. If the company does get a fair amount of positive response, expect the motorcycle to be launched here.
For now, Suzuki’s focus is on mass-market products for India. Bringing the Katana here will definitely be a great brand building exercise for the company too. Powering the Suzuki Katana is a scorching 999cc, inline-4 engine that makes 150 HP at 10,000 RPM and 108 Nm at 9500 RPM. The engine is shared with the Suzuki GSX-S1000F.
