Maruti Suzuki, Kia and Hyundai continue to be the top 3 OEMs on the list.
For the automobile industry the year 2020 is off to a decent start. The January sales figures continue to offer mixed bags of sales, winners, and losers. It’s a new year, the start of a new decade but Maruti Suzuki India continues to take the top 5 positions on the list. At the top we have the country’s popular compact sedan, the Dzire with a positive YoY of 17%, closely followed by the Baleno hatchback with a YoY of 23%. Even the Swift has recorded a positive growth of 6%. At number 4 we have the Alto with a negative YoY of 19%. It can be said that some serious cannibalization is happening for the evergreen small car by its newest sibling the S-Presso.
Kia continues to be the second OEM on the list with the Seltos after continuously raking in 5-digit figures month after month. This popular segment’s previous front-runner, the Vitara Brezza is at the 8th spot with a -23% YoY decline.
The 3rd OEM on the list, Hyundai arrives at the 9th position with the Grand i10 while Mahindra is the next one to slot at the 11th position with the Bolero. Hyundai’s recently launched compact sedan Aura coupled with the Xcent arrives at the 15th position and records the highest YoY growth of 215%. Homegrown automobile manufacturer Tata takes the 19th position with the Altroz while Renault scores high with the Triber after selling 4119 units in January 2020. Ford manages to still be in the game with the EcoSport at the 22nd position while the Mahindra XUV300 settles for the last spot.
