Yamaha will be replacing the 110cc scooter range with 125cc scooters in India.
Recently Yamaha showcased a new lineup of BS6 compliant motorcycles and scooters. The Japanese bike maker introduced the new Fascino 125 and Ray ZR 125 along with the updated R15 V3 and MT-15 with BS6 compliant engines.
The company wants to shift focus on the 125cc scooter segment. In order to do that, Yamaha has decided to discontinue the entire range of 110cc scooters as they believe they’re not worth updating to comply with BS6 norms.
Updating the existing 110cc engines to BS6 would see a drop in power and increase in cost. Hence, Yamaha has decided to pull the plug off the Fascino 110 and Ray ZR 110. The stocks will be sold until the BS6 deadline of April 1, 2020.
The new 125cc Fascino and Ray ZR offerings that were introduced recently will replace the smaller capacity models in the market. The Japanese bike maker aims to double their scooter market share to 10 percent in the next 5 years in India.
