The all new Thunderbird is going to have a BS6 compliant engine.
The classic Indian brand, Royal Enfield’s much-awaited entrant, the Thunderbird 350 X is finally seen without the wraps with many surprising elements to glance at. While the brand may discontinue its 500cc models because of high upgradation costs to comply with the BS6 norms, the new 350cc engine is going to be revised.
As we talk of the changes, the sight to definitely catch your eye is the replacement of twin-pod console with a single pod instrument console. The inspiration seems to come from the Jawa 42. It gets an all-new double-cradle frame while a new split-seat setup replaces the existing single-piece saddle. As we move further, adjustable levers and updated switchgear is evident.
Additionally, the black coating on the engine and other components is prevalent here as well. However, the exhaust guard gets a chrome finish. The bike also gets a new rear tail light and new switch modules. Things to remain same – iconic round headlight, mirrors, and handlebars.
The company aims to make it a better tourer than before. The current 346cc engine produces 20.07 PS of power at 5250 RPM and 28 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM, coupled with a 5-speed transmission. So, the change is going to be a BS6 engine, the one that is seen on the 2020 Classic 350 as well. The gearbox casing resembles to that of the Interceptor 650, so a 6-speed transmission may be in for a treat. Moreover, the engine is supposedly going to provide a better fuel economy. Thus, the existing performance figures will surely vary.
The 2020 Thunderbird X 350 is likely to see the market in early 2020. With the changes and a revised engine, price is likely to go up by at least Rs. 15,000/-. The current model costs Rs. 1,78,015/- (ex-showroom Delhi).
