The E-Chetak looks like a ripped-off version of Vespa scooter according to Tata Motors’ VP of design.
Bajaj Chetak, named after the legendary horse of the great Indian warrior Maharana Pratap Singh, has been one the most iconic and important scooters of our history. It became an affordable means of transportation for numerous Indian families and was given the name of ‘Humara Bajaj’ by the beloved fans.
To revive the iconic name, Bajaj has recently unveiled the electric version of the scooter named the E-Chetak.
However, Tata Motors’ vice president of design, Pratap Bose took a dig at the Indian 2-wheeler manufacturer by tweeting about the vehicle being a ripped-off version of the Vespa scooters. He further stated that Bajaj has missed the opportunity to do something more unique. Interestingly, the original Bajaj Chetak was inspired by the Vespa Sprint. At a glance, the look of the E-Chetak reminds of the current generation Vespa scooters of the iconic 2-wheeler brand, the Italian conglomerate Piaggio.
Despite the launch of this new e-scooter, the company will have its major focus on its current bread earning segment that is the motorcycles, which sells in the most volume by the company.
The Bajaj E-Chetak is powered by an IP67 lithium-ion battery with NCA cells. The scooter offers two driving modes – Eco and Sport with a range of 95 kms and 85 kms respectively. It offers a reverse assist mode as well.
The scooter flaunts circular LED headlight with DRLs, electronic switches and sequential scrolling LED blinkers along with a large digital console. Moreover, the manufacturer claims that the scooter has embedded mobility solutions like data communications, security and user authentication.
