The Maruti Ertiga 1.3 diesel has been discontinued due to the BS6 deadline.
Earlier this year Maruti Suzuki announced that it will discontinue all its diesel-powered vehicles next year owing to the BS6 deadline. Barely 4 months after the declaration and being true to its word, the carmaker has pulled the plug on the 1.3-litre diesel-powered engine from the Ertiga line-up. The Fiat-sourced MultiJet diesel has powered a range of Maruti models and was the centrepiece of the Ertiga line-up since April 2012. The 1.3-litre unit has been used for over a decade in 2 states of tune – 75 PS/190 Nm and 90 PS/200Nm.
The Maruti Ertiga will now be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that belts out 105 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic. The carmaker’s hybrid stem (SHVS technology) claims to aid fuel efficiency on the petrol engine. The only diesel engine on offer, the new 95 PS, 1.5-litre powertrain will also be discontinued by 1st April 2020, when the stringent BS6 emission norms come into play.
The Maruti Ertiga BS6, offered with only a 1.5-litre petrol engine, was launched at Rs. 7.55 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) whereas a CNG-powered variant of the same is available at Rs. 8.88 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Meanwhile, the Ertiga 1.5-litre diesel starts at Rs. 9.86 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga rivals the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo, Honda BR-V and the Renault Lodgy. The MPV is set to greet a sibling named XL6 on 21st August 2019.
