The recall affects 2.0-litre diesel engine models produced between 2014-2019.
Volvo is recalling 5,07,000 vehicles all over the world fearing a faulty engine component that could catch fire. The recalled cars were manufactured between 2014-2019 and run on a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The S60, S80, S90, V40, V60, V70, V90, XC60 and XC90 are the affected models. The Swedish company has declared that a faulty engine component- a plastic intake manifold could melt, deform and cause a fire. Though no accidents have surfaced, Volvo is taking a precaution and contacting customers for a free of cost checkup and fix.
Reportedly, Volvo India has also recalled close to 3000 cars owing to the fire risk. Customers are being contacted via mail and the required fixing is estimated to consume a couple of hours.
Most of the recalled models are CBU units. Since Volvo India’s about 60% sales take place through locally assembled models, not a lot of vehicles are affected in India. As of now, the company locally assembles the S90 sedan and the XC60 and XC90 SUVs. Meanwhile, Volvo is gearing to launch the S60 in India next year. It’s possible, that the third-generation sedan could be locally assembled in India right from its launch.
