The upcoming generation of the KTM Duke 390 gets a lot of hardware changes along with an updated engine to comply with emission norms.
KTM had first introduced the Duke 390 back at EICMA 2012 which later became one of the most sought after motorcycles globally. KTM updated and redesigned the Duke 390 in 2017, the current generation which is on sale. The updated 390 is slightly bigger, heavier and has more features but, with slightly less power output. In some latest spy shots, KTM seems to be working on the next generation of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle in the images is an early test mule which will be different from the production-ready motorcycles. From the images, it can be seen that the upcoming generation of the Duke 390 will miss out on the bikini fairing giving it a more muscular look. The motorcycle has also grown in dimensions as it can be seen in the images.
Externally, the new generation KTM Duke 390 gets the same LED headlight setup as in the current generation. Same are the WP USD forks. However, the images reveal a new frame design and a machined new swingarm too. The LED tail light design has also been changed while the instrument cluster is the one we see on the current Duke 390.
On closer inspection of the images, minor changes can be noticed on the cylinder head and the bulky exhaust system. This could also mean that the engine has been tweaked. However, it is too early to say if these changes make the engine more powerful or not, while changes to the exhaust system could mean that it would be a BS6 ready engine.
The 2020 KTM Duke 390 could get a reworked braking and suspension system. The new generation of the KTM Duke 390 is expected to make its global debut at EICMA later this year along with its fully faired sibling RC 390 which has also been spotted testing. KTM is also expected to launch the KTM 390 Adventure in India which has also been spied testing on several occasions.
