The all new Mercedes GLS has been revealed and it gets massive changes over the older model.
Mercedes has finally taken the covers off the 2020 GLS at the New York International Auto Show. The luxury SUV is now bigger in size and the overall dimensions have grown due to the new platform. The length of the SUV is now 5207 mm and it has a width of 1956 mm. The wheelbase of the SUV has been extended by 60 mm as well. The 2020 Mercedes GLS unveiled is expected to reach the Indian market by next year.
The new Mercedes GLS gets a host of features, including a carwash function too. It folds the ORVMs and shuts the windows & sunroof. The function also switches off the rain sensors, climate control to the air-recirculation mode and raises the suspension. After eight seconds, it activates the 360-degree camera image to assist the driver when going into the carwash.
Inside the cabin, it is large and luxurious. The GLS is indeed a spacious vehicle and the automaker claims that people with over height of six feet can be comfortable even when sitting on the third row. It features Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) and gets four screens inside the cabin. A 12.3-inch screen is set for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system while the front seats have 11.6-inch screens attached to their back for the second row of passengers. All the screens are synced to the MBUX. The rear seats are foldable as well which will allow more space when needed.
Along with the new platform, the company has also introduced a new 3.0-litre, inline six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged petrol engine. It produced a maximum power of 367 PS and 500 Nm of torque. The higher variant of the GLS gets a twin-turbo V8 engine that makes 489 PS of power and 700 Nm of torque. The engines are mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system and a 9-speed automatic transmission. The GLS runs on All-wheel drive (4MATIC) system as well. Upon its launch in India, it is likely get a diesel variant. The 2020 Mercedes GLS is expected to hit the Indian shores in early 2020. It will go head to head with rivals like the new BMW X7 which is also expected to come to India in 2019.
