The Latin NCAP test result of the Volkswagen T-Cross SUV is nothing short of safe. The SUV scores a 5-star rating at the crash test conducted by the Latin New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). It also scored high numbers in both adult and child safety parameters. In international markets, vehicles need to have a whole lot of safety features to make them worthy of driving on the roads.
The front crash test for the Volkswagen T-Cross was conducted at a speed of 64 km/hr while the side mobile barrier test was conducted at 50 km/hr. The score for the adult passenger safety is 14.62 out of 16 and the score for child occupant safety is 16 out of 16. The total points bagged by the T-Cross are 21.77 out of 24. The variant which was tested had 6 airbags as standard.
According to Latin NCAP, the body shell of the Volkswagen T-Cross is certified to be stable after all the crash tests. Additionally, the vehicle body showed a very less amount of deformation. The head and neck of the driver and passengers along with the driver’s chest got a good amount of protection with the incorporated safety systems.
The Volkswagen T-Cross is expected to make its way into India in 2020. It is based on the MQB AO platform. The India-bound T-Cross will likely get a 1.5-litre petrol engine which will be from the TSI EVO family of engines. The engine makes about 130 BHP and could feature cylinder deactivation technology increasing the fuel efficiency. Expect the SUV to have top notch safety equipment upon its launch in India.
