The MG Hector is going to be offered with 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines.
MG Motor India will launch the Hector by June 2019 and this SUV is going to be available with a choice of both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel engine is the same 2.0-litre unit sourced from FCA that also powers the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass and it is likely to be offered in the 173 HP/350 Nm tune.
However, the petrol engine will be a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit. This engine will produce 143 HP and 250 Nm and it will be available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed DCT. In comparison to its rivals like the Jeep Compass, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson, the Hector’s petrol engine has the lowest power output but it produces more torque than the CR-V and Tucson.
While the CR-V and Tucson com with naturally aspirated petrol engines, the Compass gets a turbo petrol 1.4-litre unit which is matched to a 7-speed DCT. The MG Hector will be manufactured at the company’s Halol plant which was acquired from GM and the company is looking at about 75% localised content.
