The Delhi Traffic Police have come up with projects deploying cutting edge technology.
Traffic in the crowded zones is not a new problem in capital city Delhi. Parts of the city are congested and parts are unclogged but since the primary business of the city occurs on the congested areas, traffic jams have become a regular headache for the traffic police department. Over time the narrowing and choking of the roads because of encroachments has become common. The acute lack of traffic discipline is another of the important causes of traffic jams as observed by the Delhi Police. For this reason, the Delhi Police is set to introduce new projects to curb traffic jams in the capital city.
The Delhi Traffic Police has been working for solving the traffic jam problem and they have come up with projects deploying cutting edge technology to improve the traffic management. It will be called the Intelligence Traffic Management System (ITMS). The officials have proposed that the project will cost around Rs. 1000 crores and it will undertake all traffic management with cutting edge technology. Its intention is to improve the existing traffic jam conditions and get foolproof solutions that promise smooth traffic without congestions in the prime business locations in the city. The project will be implemented in three phases. The proposal has been approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs according to the Delhi Police.
Traffic Management With Technology:
Red Light Violation Detection Camera (RLVD) System:
The Delhi police is planning to install a 3D radar based Red Light Violation Detection Camera (RLVD) system that can detect the signal violators who jump over the red light. Notice issuance will follow the violation detection through SMS for effective prosecution. This system will be installed at 24 major traffic junctions across the city to curb major traffic jams that primarily occur because of traffic rule violators.
Over Speed Detection System:
Over speeding is one of the major causes of road accidents and indirectly traffic jams. To get better control of the speed on the major roads the officials are going to install gantry-mounted radar-based Speed Detection System at 100 locations in 2019 that will keep an eye on the over speeding vehicles and their owners. More speed checking cameras and other devices are expected to be acquired this year. This project is estimated to cost Rs. 27 crores.
Penalty Recovery System:
A new penalty recovery e-challan system will be implemented in collaboration with the National Informatics centre to ensure transparent prosecution of violators. This system will build a database of repeat violators and will help the officials to access the previous history of traffic rule violators to take prompt action against them. As told by officials, this Rs. 19 crores project will be completed by May 2019.
