The upcoming SUV-coupé is slated for an early 2019 launch and is based on the BMW X3.
The BMW X4 was spotted undisguised yet again, this time by MotorBeam reader Ujwal Chopra in Tamil Nadu. The X4 is a sportier SUV-coupé iteration of the X3 and will be launched in India in the coming months.
Internationally, the BMW X4 comes with a variety of engine options but it is not clear what engines will power the X4 in India. The image here is with a ’30d’ badge meaning an in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine is sure to power this Mercedes GLC Coupe rival. This 3.0-litre diesel will likely be the most powerful in the line-up.
We expect a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a less powerful 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel as the other powerplant options. All the engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It is not clear whether the engines will be complaint with BS6 emission norms at the time of launch.
The BMW X4 sits at the niche of the SUV market with style and uniqueness as its main selling points. The SUV has a bold face, similar to the X3 but with a slightly low ride height and sloping roofline, the X4 looks a lot sportier. On the inside, the BMW X4 will have subtle changes over the X3’s cabin but will offer more or less the same equipment.
The BMW X4 will be positioned above the X3 and as a result will sport a more premium price tag. We expect the prices to be in the region of Rs. 65-70 lakhs. Upon launch, the X4 will go against the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé and the Range Rover Evoque. The Mercedes GLC Coupé is available only in the AMG avatar (not the full blown version though) and there is a good chance that sooner or later, BMW will come up with the ‘M’ version of the X4 which will directly rival the GLC 43 Coupe which is priced at Rs. 97 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
