Priced just a shy above Rs. 3 crores, the Lamborghini Urus is selling like hot cakes.
As the year 2019 starts, here is an article about the most hotly talked about luxury SUV out there. The company which makes it is synonymous with making some soul-stirring super-cars and when they set out to make an SUV, they refused to just settle on ‘Sports Utility Vehicle’ but labeled it as a ‘Super’ Sports Utility Vehicle. The efforts seem to have paid off, for the Lamborghini Urus is setting the global as well as Indian sales charts on fire.
The Lamborghini Urus was launched in India in January 2018, weeks after its international debut. The deliveries began towards the end of September 2018 and since then there have been nearly 25 -30 unit of the Urus delivered all around India. With this number of deliveries in India, Lamborghini sales in India are nearly tripling.
The Urus is the first Lamborghini to have a 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine which it shares along with other cars of the VW Group. But with crucial tweaks, Lamborghini has ensured this engine is in-line with the other cars in the company’s lineup when it comes to excitement and character. In the Urus, the 4.0-litre motor puts out 641 BHP of power at 6500 RPM and 850 Nm of peak torque. This enables the 2.2-tonne monster to propel from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 3.6 seconds and if left untamed, it can go all the way to 305 km/hr. The figures are better than most production supercars.
The 4WD system in the Lamborghini Urus gives 40 percent power to the front and 60 percent power to the rear wheels. The SUV can also transfer power to the left and right wheels depending upon the need. The Lamborghini Urus comes with a usable air suspension, which helps for better off-road performance and also makes the car’s ground clearance to reach nearly 10 inches. No wonder it is a perfect raging bull for our kind of roads.
As a typical Lamborghini product, the Urus shouts aggression with many details in tandem with other cars in the line-up. The ‘Y’ shape can be seen in many parts of the car like its headlights, tail-lights, bonnet, side body and many other places. It also has the traditional rear wheel arch which is not a circle, but more like an oval shape, like in all other Lamborghinis. The Urus is fun to drive as it has traditional Lamborghini drive modes like Strada, Corsa and Ego. Being a 4WD SUV, it also comes with some extra modes to have some adventures even when the tarmac ends. It offers 3 new modes for off-roading such as Terra for dirt, Sabbia for sand and Neve for snow. With all this on offer, one can definitely say that the Urus is a perfect blend of Lamborghini character and SUV essence.
The cabin of the Lamborghini Urus exudes luxury with a pinch of sportiness. You will be spoilt for choice looking at the sheer number of leather and Alcantara colour options. The interiors are supremely luxurious with generous use of high-quality materials and an equipment list that is miles long. The cabin features latest in technology and is quite practical too. The jet-lever styled controls to toggle between the modes attribute to its sporting essence. Should you keep a chauffeur, Lamborghini can configure two individual rear seats for first-class comfort. Overall, the interiors on the Urus are as good as they can get on such a pricey car.
With a starting price of Rs. 3.10 crores (ex-showroom), the Urus combines the best of the supercar and best of the SUV in one snazzy design. There is a lot going for Lamborghini’s SUV and we are sure that there will be many more plying on our roads in 2019.
