The next generation Mahindra Thar has been spotted undergoing testing in Coimbatore and is likely to be launched in 2020.
Since its last facelift in 2016, it is about time for the legendary Mahindra Thar to get an upgrade. Which is something that Mahindra has thought about as well! The new generation Mahindra Thar has been spotted while undergoing testing in Coimbatore.
The vehicle, that is recognised instantly as a Thar, is most likely to get a new chassis and a BS-VI compliant diesel engine that will be paired with a 4-wheel drive system with locking differentials. The spy images hint towards an independent suspension in the front. The spy images also tell us that the 4X4 now has a new front end and a wider body.
The new Thar carries over its styling that is inspired by the Jeep CJ5 and sports a 7-slat grille sided with old-school circular headlamps. The test mule also has pre-production indicators mounted to the fenders. It also has a fixed windshield, unlike the previous generation. The car seems to get side steps, a side-hinged tailgate and a fabric rooftop as well. The car might debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
