Suzuki is looking to enter the growing segment of 250cc bikes in India with the Gixxer 250.
When the Suzuki Gixxer was launched, it made quite the ripple in the naked motorcycle market. The bike entered as a stiff competitor to the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Bajaj Pulsar 220 and Yamaha Fazer V2.0 FI, but India has been receiving it slowly. Now Suzuki is expected to expand their range of Gixxer motorcycles. This will be done with the introduction of the Suzuki Gixxer 250 whose launch is expected by April 2019.
The plan to introduce a bike soon in the sub-300cc segment is in line with the current changes in biking trends in India. This segment of motorcycles is booming in India and Suzuki is also looking to jump into the arena and deliver a quality product that works well with the country’s biking enthusiasts.
The currently available model of the Gixxer on the roads holds a 155cc engine that can bring out a maximum power of 14.6 BHP and peak torque of 14 Nm. It is expected that the engine will be replaced with a 250cc unit. This will place the Gixxer with other established bikes in the segment like the Yamaha FZ 25, the Bajaj NS models, the RS 200, and the TVS RTR 200 4V.
In other countries, Suzuki has made available the GSX-250R, which is a parallel-twin engine supersport motorcycle. The bike would be in direct competition with the Yamaha YZF-R3 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300, if it were to be launched in India. However, it is likely that India will receive a single-cylinder unit in the same fashion that Yamaha launched the FZ in the country.
Understanding the market properly and accordingly pricing the bike would be the key point for Suzuki to focus on if they want the new model to succeed.
