Exploring the city of dreams, Mumbai with the Maruti Ignis.
Mumbai is the city of dreams and there is a certain charm about this city that is unmatchable. The country’s financial capital is also home to a number of popular landmarks where people flock to get some amazing views of this city. I too love driving through Mumbai’s streets and one fine day I decided to go out for a drive and even click some pictures at some of Mumbai’s famous landmarks. The Maruti Ignis petrol AGS was at my disposal for the drive, so read on to find out how it went.
I brought the 1.2-litre petrol engine to life early in the morning and started off from my home towards the Western Express Highway. This was one of the rare occasions when traffic wasn’t very high and I trudged along, listening to some mild music on the SmartPlay infotainment system. Since I use an iPhone, I am a total fan of how seamless the Apple CarPlay integration is. Crossing the highway, I hit the Reclamation and crossed the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to get to South Mumbai.
We drove towards Colaba first, also crossing the Gateway of India and the ever so popular Taj Mahal hotel. Post that, we started driving towards Nariman Point and Marine Drive. The entire road adjacent to the Arabian sea is very beautiful and gives you a splendid view of the waters. The beautiful buildings and the buzzing crowd lend an appealing and energetic feel to the vibe of Mumbai city. The K-Series petrol engine is very peppy and offers good power delivery no matter where you’re driving – city or highway.
On our way, we even caught up with some of our fans while I also took a friend of mine for a drive in the Ignis. The funky styling of the hatchback became a favourite with youngsters and so did the cool features like the LED projector headlamps, push-button start, keyless-entry and so on. Traffic had started piling up by this time and thankfully the AGS variant which I was driving lent a lot of convenience with its easy and automatic shifts. The AGS also has a manual mode where you can take control of gear shifts.
Mumbai’s traffic is a nightmare and driving can be challenging but when you have a car which is so easy to drive with great outward visibility, it really helps matters. Finding parking space in our city is again very difficult and here is where the Ignis really shone because not only is the steering light for easy manoeuvrability, the reverse parking camera and sensors come in to be very useful and a special mention goes for the screen which offers a very clear and high resolution view.
We started driving towards Worli which has some amazing food joints and my taste buds were super delighted. After a wholesome meal and before heading home, we even asked some people about their opinions on the Maruti Ignis. While a lot of people commented that the trendy styling makes this car stand out amongst a sea of other boring hatchbacks, many people even said that they loved the upmarket interiors of the car. But for me personally, the stand out feature would be the AGS which offers a peppy drive mated to the petrol engine, and the infotainment system which produces good sound quality and offers a very fluid touchscreen.
