Yamaha will skip the 125cc segment and introduce a 155cc scooter in India.
The 125cc scooter segment is becoming popular in the Indian market. Every scooter maker has introduced a 125cc scooter in their portfolio, except Yamaha. And now it looks like that’s not going to change in the near future as Yamaha has decided to skip the 125cc scooter segment and directly introduce the NMax 155cc scooter in India.
The Yamaha NMax gets LED elements, fully-digital instrument console and a sporty design. It gets a large windscreen, split floorboard and a long step-up seat. The NMax runs on 110/70/13 front and 130/70/13 rear alloy wheels. The scooter has disc brake at both ends along with ABS.
Powering the NMax is a 155cc, liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine which develops 14.8 PS and 14.4 Nm of peak torque. This scooter produces more power when compared to the Aprilia SR 150. However, India spec scooter might get a differently tuned engine to deliver better efficiency.
The Yamaha Aerox S 155cc scooter was spotted in India earlier this year. However, that was only brought in the country to be showcased at the Yamaha Scooter Boutique in Chennai. The NMax will be a direct rival to the Aprilia SR 150 and Vespa 150cc range.
In the Philippines, the NMax is priced at around Rs. 1.5 lakhs. We are expecting it to be priced around Rs. 1 lakh with heavy localisation and a few features to be skipped out.
