The case is really interesting as the new model comes with more features as standard.
The prices for the 2018 Maruti Ciaz facelift have been revealed only yesterday and now an interesting thing has come to light. The prices for the new diesel model are lower even after it being more feature-loaded than the outgoing model.
Mechanically, both, the outgoing model and the 2018 Maruti Ciaz are identical with a 1.3-litre diesel engine powering them. Even the power figures are identical with the engine producing 88.5 HP at 4000 RPM and 200 Nm of peak torque from 1750 RPM. The claimed mileage is 28.09 km/l.
Now let’s come to the important part, the price. The prices for the outgoing diesel model fell between Rs. 9.50-11.51 lakhs whereas for the 2018 Maruti Ciaz, they range from Rs. 9.19-10.97 lakhs. This means that the base variant of the new diesel model is Rs. 31,000/- cheaper while the top-spec variant is cheaper by Rs. 54,000/-. The amounts are considerable considering the fact that the 2018 Ciaz comes with added features and enhanced safety.
The new features on the 2018 Maruti Ciaz include a new infotainment system, an updated front with projector headlights and LED DRLs and LED taillights. Safety of the passengers too is better now with the top-spec variant getting dual front airbags and electronic stability control (ESC). However, the updated MID that shows more information about the car is offered only on the petrol variant and not the diesel variant.
The diesel car is cheaper than the older model because of economies of scale. Also, the petrol variant comes with a new hyrbid system that has a Lithium-ion battery while the diesel model comes with the same hybrid system as before and gets a single regular battery (non Lithium-ion) and this is how Maruti saved costs.
The pricing for the 2018 Maruti Ciaz diesel variant has to be the company’s trump card here. The car offers excellent mileage with features on par with the competition. Maruti has done it again and the 2018 Ciaz already looks to be the right successor for the outgoing model.
