The new model gets first-in segment features and a new front facia.
Renault has just introduced the 2018 Kwid in India with prices starting at Rs. 2.66 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). This price happens to be the same as the outgoing model but the new Kwid now comes with additional features and a new front grille, thus increasing the value proposition of the car.
As earlier reported, the 2018 Renault Kwid has now been updated with an integrated reverse parking camera which adds to the convenience while reversing the car. There is also a rear arm rest and a rear 12V power socket for passenger convenience. The 2018 Kwid continues to get a touchscreen display for the infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.
Depending on the variant you choose, the 2018 Renault Kwid will also come equipped with front power windows and remote central locking. The company has also fitted the car with a driver-side airbag and pro-sense seat belts with pretentioners and load limiters to enhance the safety. The rear seat belts feature an ELR (emergency locking retractor). The ELR allows the seat belt to freely extend and retract with occupant movement, yet locks during a sudden stop or upon impact. Unfortunately, ABS is still missing.
On the exterior, the upper variants have been fitted with a new razor edge chrome front grille that surrounds the Renault diamond logo. The Kwid Climber variant is offered in six colour options – fiery red, planet grey, moonlight silver, ice cool white, outback bronze and electric blue. The lower variants have lesser colour options.
Mechanically, the 2018 Renault Kwid remains unchanged and will be offered in two engine options. One is the 799cc SCe (smart control efficiency) petrol motor that produces 54 HP at 5678 RPM and 72 Nm of peak torque at 4386 RPM. The other engine is a 999cc SCe motor that produces 67.08 HP at 5500 RPM and 91 Nm of peak torque at 4250 RPM. The 1.0-litre engine is also available with a 5-speed AMT to aid in city driving. The AMT also has a traffic assist system which helps the car crawl in slow moving traffic and even prevents it from rolling back on slopes.
The 2018 Renault Kwid is being sold in eight variants and bookings have begun while deliveries will commence soon. The Kwid is credited for bringing a crossover look to the entry-level car segment which is also why it has already sold 2.5 lakh units. Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki have also begun work on their micro crossovers that will be introduced by 2020 to rival the Kwid.
