The 2018 version of the compact SUV has got exterior and interior updates.
The Vitara is the flagship Suzuki currently on sale in the global markets. While the Indian market got a sub 4-metre version of it, christened as the Vitara Brezza, the global version is quite big in size. The Suzuki Vitara just got a facelift in the international market and it is expected to hit the Indian shores next year.
The 2018 Vitara, like all facelifts gets an updated exterior. This gives it a sharper looking front, new headlights that gel with the front grille and a new bumper making the car bolder now. The wheels too look like diamond-cut alloys and give the car a good stance. The rear gets new taillights that are more angular now. Going with the overall design, the rear bumper too gets a different styling.
Considerable changes are happening on the interiors too. The 2018 Maruti Vitara will come with a new touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The instrument cluster also gets a refresh with a more pleasing multi-information display surrounded by analogue dials. To have a tough fight with its competition like the Hyundai Creta, the car might also get a sunroof in India. Other changes will include better quality (soft touch) plastics and changed upholstery for that premium feel.
The Indian market is expected to get a 1.5-litre in-house diesel powered Vitara by Maruti. For the petrol powertrains, it is currently being offered with a 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine options capable of producing 109 HP and 138 HP respectively in the international markets. We expect the 1.0-litre turbo petrol for the India-spec Vitara.
Safety technologies on the international 2018 Vitara include lane departure warning and prevention, ESP, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and traffic sign recognition. The Indian version however will be skipping all this and will come with only basic features like multiple airbags and ABS with EBD. This is because the competition is stiff and the company will be looking to price it as competitively as possible.
Once launched, the 2018 Maruti Vitara will be competing with the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Tata’s upcoming S201 compact SUV and the likes.
