The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 has been spotted testing in India with its body camouflaged.
One of the two Husqvarna motorcycles that will be coming to India has been spotted testing here. The launch of the bikes will only take place in 2019 but the spotting of the Svartpilen 401 in Maharashtra gives a good idea as to how the Swedish motorcycle will look when it is officially unveiled.
Though the design of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is fairly different, it is immediately apparent that the rims of the bike have been borrowed from the KTM Duke 390. Although, the rubber on this one has an off-road tread which is expected as the Svartpilen is a scrambler. This is in contrast to the wire spoke wheels that come with the international model, so this might change when the motorcycle is officially introduced in India. The body is camouflaged but a look at the official images will leave very less to imagination.
Internationally, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is powered by a KTM sourced 373cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that produces 43.5 HP and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The engine casing on the spotted bike makes it clear that the Indian model too will get the same powertrain. However, it remains to be seen if the engine will come with a different state of tune, which is likely as the company will give the Svartpilen a scrambler character.
The handlebars too are high set with tall rearview mirrors. The riding position is upright. Braking on the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 will be provided by again, the same front and rear discs found on the KTM Duke 390. With the amount of power that is on-board, ABS should come as standard. What is new on the bike though is the rear grab rail for the pillion rider. A saree guard is still missing on the test mule but the final model will have it as it is mandatory according to Indian regulations.
KTM and Bajaj have had a very profitable alliance in India and the addition of Husqvarna to this arrangement will only strengthen it further. The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 will be produced in the Bajaj factory in Chakan alongside KTM motorcycles. The company will be placing these motorcycles in the entry-level premium bike segment which has seen a constant rise. It remains to be seen how Husqvarna motorcycles will be received in India when they are launched here next year.
