Last year’s top ten models have experienced a clear slowdown in their exports which has resulted in a rejig of positions.
A look at the table and you will notice that a reduced number of cars have been exported in the first quarter of the Fiscal Year 2019. The list also sees a change with two new entrants in the form of the Nissan Sunny and Hyundai Xcent.
The most exported model of the first quarter of 2018, the Ford EcoSport has been dethroned by the Chevrolet Beat. Even though the number of Beat models exported in 2019 is 3% less than last year at 20,543 units, it is still more than the EcoSport which has seen a 15% decline and only exported 20,511 units this year. The EcoSport now sits on the second spot.
The third rank is taken up by the Volkswagen Vento which was in the second position last year. It sees a decline of 18% in its exports and the company has only exported 17,992 units in the first quarter. The fourth ranked Hyundai Grand i10 sees a 60% increase in its number of exports which is also the highest in this list. Hyundai exported 15,303 units of the i10 compared to last year’s 9563 units.
In fifth position is again a Ford model which is the Figo. A 27% decrease in its exports sees the model come down one position. This puts its number of units exported to 11,995 units. In sixth place is the Hyundai Creta which continues to be placed behind the Figo with 8672 units being exported in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2018. This is a 31% decline from last year.
India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki sees its Baleno model rise to seventh position from last year’s ninth place. At 8069 units being exported this quarter, the Baleno too saw a decline of 1%. Eighth position sees a new entry with the Nissan Sunny. A rise of 10% in its exports has helped the Sunny secure a spot in this list. It exported 6293 units in the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2018.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis which has a hit or a miss design sits ninth in the list. It has jumped one position from last year’s tenth place but there is a decline of 16% in the number of units exported. Maruti Suzuki has only exported 5231 units of the Ignis model so far. The tenth position too gets a new model in the form of the Hyundai Xcent. Even though the exports for this car fell by 11%, with 5173 units it still manages to make it to the top ten list.
